Yamato’s Cover Page Series Vol. 30: “Petan was alive!”
Ulti’s expression is priceless — she really does love her little brother. He’s her only family, and when you think of it like Sabo and Luffy, it makes perfect sense.
As for the cover page composition — if it continues the Skypiea homage from last time, it would be around here: at the end of the Skypiea arc, Shandians, Sky People, officials, pirates, and even the Giant Snake — regardless of who had been enemies or allies — all gathered around the campfire and celebrated.
Goldberg’s Father
Goldberg’s shield was a Homie — brought to life by Big Mom’s ability. And it was also revealed that Goldberg’s father was a member of the Big Mom Extermination Squad. Given the resemblance in the nose, the bearded giant standing between Oimo and Kashii must be the father.
After Skypiea Comes Long Ring Long Land
Sanji and Zoro used a combination move for the first time in a while to take down the Groggy-saurus. “Groggy” and “Air Force (Armée de l’Air) Power Shot” — that takes us to Long Ring Long Land, the island after Skypiea. It’s a homage to the Groggy Ring where the Sanji-Zoro pair fought the Groggy Monsters.
Also, the Groggy Monsters’ “Big Barn” was what Gaban referred to as the “Giant Fishman (Watan).” And the “World Submersion Theory” revealed by Vegapunk seems connected to this island as well. The story keeps reaching further back.
Campfire
Luffy and Loki’s dining scene is a homage to the first campfire — the “Gold Eve Festival.” And the fire that put the giant children in danger could also be a campfire homage. Yamato’s cover page depicts the scene just before the campfire at Skypiea’s ending. The main story’s dining scene between Luffy and Loki — including the soup — corresponds to the Gold Eve Festival campfire.
Will Luffy and Loki Duel?
Just as Luffy tried to board Shanks’ ship, Loki tried to board Rocks’ ship.
Roger, called the Pirate King — Luffy, aiming to become Pirate King. Rocks, who sought to become King of the World — Loki, who seeks to become King of the World. In other words, a Roger faction vs. Rocks faction opposition structure.
Ultimately, Luffy and Loki will likely end up as something like allies — otherwise the Harley mural and Ragnarok homage don’t hold together. But who follows whom? Both have ambitions to become king, so neither will back down easily. There’s only one homage that fits this situation.
