The Cursed Prince. Father killer. Elbaf’s shame. Loki was universally despised by everyone in Elbaf — but when the flashback arc revealed the truth behind his father’s death and the reason he ate the Devil Fruit, the world’s entire assessment of Loki flipped completely.

Biological Father: Harald
Everyone believed Loki had killed his father Harald, the King, to get his hands on the legendary Devil Fruit passed down in Elbaf — but the truth was the exact opposite.
Harald had hoped to lead Elbaf away from being a nation of warriors and sought membership in the World Government, willingly becoming a slave to the government himself.
In the end, through a deep-sea covenant with Im-sama, Harald’s body was made incapable of disobeying any command — and he was ordered to “hand over Elbaf’s citizens as combat slaves,” the exact opposite of everything Harald truly wished for.
To stop the rampaging Harald — his body now enhanced with immortality and his mind under total control — the only option was for Loki, who matched his giant frame and strength, to obtain the legendary Devil Fruit’s power and stop him by force.
It was then revealed that Loki had deliberately taken on the infamy of being a “father killer” to protect Harald’s honor.
Biological Mother: Estrilda
Loki was born with unusual eyes, and his mother, disgusted by his appearance, tried to kill the newborn Loki by throwing him off a cliff — but failed. Loki remembers that moment and does not consider Estrilda his mother.
Estrilda made numerous ominous prophecies about Loki, which spread to the citizens and gave him the nickname “Cursed Prince.”
The “lucky horse” Asura gifted to Harald from Estrilda’s family as a wedding present, the uncle who held the regent’s seat as Estrilda’s brother, and the people of the sake village that was Estrilda’s homeland — all were eliminated by Loki.
The Mother Loki Acknowledges: Ida
The mother of Hyldin, Loki’s half-brother. She loved Loki just as much as her own child.
Even as an infant, Loki had already given up on receiving parental love — yet no matter how badly he acted out, Ida never stopped caring for him. Over time, he came to accept her, calling her “the only mother I have.”
Half-Brother: Hyldin
Like the citizens of Elbaf, Hyldin believed Loki killed Harald out of greed — but after Loki revealed the truth, Hyldin apologized for the misunderstanding and reconciled, vowing to fight alongside Loki for Elbaf.
His Idol: Rocks D. Xebec
The person who gave hope to a Loki who had been so deeply wounded by his mother that he gave up on love and even attempted suicide multiple times.
When Loki heard Rocks’s ambitions, he was moved to tears by their sheer scale — rediscovering the ability to hope for the future, and was saved.
Loki saw Rocks as an image of Nika, calling him a “liberating warrior who would destroy the world.”
Later, Loki himself would adopt the title “Sun God who will end the world” — a phrase that merges both Rocks and Nika into one.
Rival: Shanks / Vezdurfelmir
In Norse mythology, Nidhogg has a hawk companion named Vezdurfelmir (Veðrfölnir) who constantly exchanges barbs with him.
Loki is modeled on Nidhogg, and Shanks is believed to be modeled on Vezdurfelmir.
A Failed Romance: Charlotte Lola
The person Loki fell in love with at first sight and proposed to — only to be rejected.
Why Loki fell for her and why Lola turned him down have yet to be revealed. But the braids both share are said to be an important key, as braids are a characteristic hairstyle of Norse warriors.
Masa-ko
The mysterious “Masa-ko” — someone Loki has been calling on a Den Den Mushi for years, a close friend he has never actually met face to face.
The Den Den Mushi, which reflects the features of the person being called, had long eyelashes — and the polite speech patterns suggested the caller was likely female.
Then in Vol. 115, Chapter 1167, decisive evidence emerged:
- Loki and Neptune’s daughter had been arranged to be married
- Harald calling Neptune’s daughter “that fluffy-haired girl (Masa-ko)”
In other words: Masa-ko’s true identity is Shirahoshi.
The Prince of Elbaf sits above the Treasure Tree Adam — the Ryugu Kingdom beneath the Sunlight Tree Eve.
Adam is Loki. Eve is Shirahoshi.
A pairing that couldn’t be more perfectly matched.
Was Loki a Former Emperor?
Loki was crucified 6 years ago — which coincides exactly with when Shanks joined the Four Emperors.
This gave rise to the theory that “Loki was once a Yonko.” The idea: Loki was once called an Emperor, was defeated by Shanks, and was replaced.
His World Government special bounty of 2.6 billion Berries — nearly matching Luffy’s — is the basis for this theory.
However, this theory has a critical flaw. To be called an “Emperor,” you must hold territory: islands flying your pirate flag.
Whitebeard, Kaido, Big Mom, Shanks, Blackbeard, Luffy — every single one of them had islands under their flag. An emperor rules an empire. Someone with no territory cannot be called an emperor.
Loki was a prince of Elbaf, but after Harald’s death he never took the throne — Elbaf had no king. So Loki had no islands flying his pirate flag, and at this point the “former Emperor” theory simply doesn’t hold.
The Mystery of “Sun God” Loki
“I am the Sun God who will end the world!! ‘LOKI’!!”
Interestingly, Road (ロード) also called himself “Sun God.” His explanation: “Anyone born in Elbaf holds the dream of becoming the ‘Sun God’ and ruling the world.”
Hyldin and the New Giant Warriors similarly said “everyone born in Elbaf admires Nika.” So Loki, too, likely called himself the Sun God out of admiration for Nika.
Nika appears twice in Elbaf’s ancient “Harley” legends, but because no one can properly translate the old language, it has been passed down variously as the “God of Liberation,” the “God of Destruction,” and the “God of Laughter.”
Every one of these could be Nika’s true form — or all of them could be wrong. There’s still vast room for interpretation, and the Elbaf arc will almost certainly explore this further.
Will Loki Join Luffy’s Crew?
Will Loki join Luffy’s crew?
The answer is both YES and NO.
The reason comes down to what “crewmate” actually means.
Sailing on the Sunny with a role like helmsman or doctor, adventuring alongside Luffy — that’s the classic image. But that’s not the only definition.
Is Vivi no longer a crewmate just because she stayed behind in Alabasta? What about Yamato, who promised to board the Sunny once his own journey was done? Momonosuke, who chose to stay and protect his country? Kinemon? The Grand Fleet?
“Being on the Sunny” is not the condition for being a crewmate.
If Luffy wants to keep someone alive, and that person wants to keep Luffy alive too — that’s a crewmate. And between Loki and Luffy, that feeling is already beginning to take root.
But will he board the Sunny right now? No. Loki still has his own mission to complete first.
Just as Vivi remained in Alabasta as a Straw Hat while fulfilling her own role, Loki will complete his mission as king of Elbaf. And in the end, he’ll arrive at the final war leading the giants and the Fish-Men — that’s the landing point I believe this character is headed for.
Loki Will Reunite the Galeila
The legendary “Galeila” — the Great Hammer Corps of giant shipwrights passed down in Elbaf’s legends — wasn’t a myth. It actually existed.
Rocks knew of the Galeila’s existence and believed that Harald could command them, telling Loki about it. The Galeila was the core military force at the heart of Rocks’s ambitions.
So where is the Galeila now? This is where the frozen giants of Punk Hazard come in.
From the matching silhouettes, the giants frozen at Punk Hazard are almost certainly the Galeila.
And right now, Vegapunk — the former master of Punk Hazard — is in Elbaf. If Vegapunk brings up the frozen giants, Loki will almost certainly head to Punk Hazard. And in One Piece, every character who has been frozen is without exception, revived. The Galeila will be no different.
Loki also has a trump card to thaw them out — that’s Ragnir.
Ragnir (Iron Thunder), which came with the Nidhogg fruit’s power, also has the ability to melt ice. Head to Punk Hazard, thaw out the Galeila with Ragnir — as the captain who commands the very force Rocks had dreamed of, Loki will inherit that mission.
And the Galeila has one more mission to fulfill: repairing Ark Noah.
The “clan” that the Sea Kings once mentioned as capable of repairing Noah — no one fits better than the expert shipwrights of the Galeila. And Noah is in Fish-Man Island. That’s where Shirahoshi (Masa-ko), Loki’s fiancée, lives.
Fish-Man Island is currently in a state of emergency. Leading the Galeila there serves both the mission of repairing Noah and Loki’s personal mission of saving Shirahoshi — there’s no reason not to go.
To summarize Loki’s route after the Elbaf arc:
- Head to Punk Hazard, thaw out and reunite the Galeila using Ragnir
- Lead the Galeila to Fish-Man Island
- Repair Ark Noah and reunite with Shirahoshi
- Lead the giants and Fish-Men to join Luffy’s final war
Rocks’s ambitions, realized by Loki in a completely different form. That’s the massive role this character has been entrusted with.
