Birth Father: Harald
It was rumored that Loki “killed the king, his own father, to obtain the legendary Devil Fruit of Elbaf.” In truth, the situation was the complete opposite.
Harald sought to transform Elbaf from a warrior nation into a peaceful one, voluntarily submitting to the World Government as a slave. But through a deep-sea contract with Im, he was stripped of his free will and ordered to offer the people of Elbaf as combat slaves — the very opposite of everything Harald wanted.
To stop the rampaging, near-invincible Harald — strengthened with an undying body and bereft of his own consciousness — the only option was for Loki, who shared his father’s enormous frame and strength, to obtain the power of the legendary Devil Fruit and subdue him by force.
Loki bore the false stigma of “patricide” deliberately — to protect Harald’s honor.
Birth Mother: Estrada
Estrada despised Loki’s unusual appearance from birth and attempted to kill him by throwing him off a cliff as an infant — but failed. Loki clearly remembers that moment, and does not consider Estrada his mother.
Estrada also issued a series of ominous prophecies about Loki, which spread to the populace and gave him the epithet “Cursed Prince.”
Everything connected to Estrada — the “lucky horse” Asla gifted to Harald as a wedding present from her family, her brother who took the regent seat, and the people of her home village — was eventually eliminated by Loki.
True Mother: Ida
Ida is the mother of Loki’s half-brother Hildyin, and she treated Loki as her own child.
Having given up on receiving parental affection within months of birth, Loki lashed out at Ida again and again. But no matter how he behaved, her love for him never changed. Over time, Loki came to accept her, and eventually called her “my only mother.”
Half-brother: Hildyin
Like all citizens of Elbaf, Hildyin believed Loki had killed Harald out of greed. When Loki revealed the truth, Hildyin apologized for his misunderstanding and pledged to fight alongside Loki for Elbaf.
Role Model: Rocks D. Xebec
Rocks D. Xebec was the figure who gave hope to Loki — a young man who had given up on love and despaired of life itself after his mother’s treatment.
When Loki heard Rocks’ grand ambition, he was moved to tears by its enormity and found, for the first time, a reason to look forward to the future.
Loki saw in Rocks the image of Nika — a liberating warrior who would shatter the world. Later, Loki took a title combining the ideas of both Rocks and Nika: “the Sun God who will end the world.”
Rival: Shanks
Defying Shanks’ attempts to stop him, Loki set out to avenge Harald — but Shanks overpowered him and chained him to the Treasure Tree Adam for six years.
The conflict between Loki (wielder of Nidhogg) and Shanks (whose sword Gryphon is a hawk-chimera) mirrors Norse mythology faithfully. In the myths, Nidhogg always had a bickering companion — a hawk named Vedrfolnir. It’s believed Loki was cast as Nidhogg and Shanks as Vedrfolnir.
Heartbreak: Charlotte Lola
Loki fell for Charlotte Lola at first sight and proposed — but was rejected. Neither the reason for his infatuation nor why Lola refused has been revealed. However, their shared feature — braids — is a characteristic hairstyle of Norse warriors, which may hold an important clue.
Mosa-ko
“Mosa-ko” (Mossy) is someone Loki has never seen or met in person, yet they’ve been friends for a long time — communicating through a Den Den Mushi (transponder snail).
The Den Den Mushi’s eyes, which reflect the features of the person on the other end, show long lashes. The polite speech pattern also suggests Mosa-ko is female.
Then in Chapter 1167 of Volume 115, decisive evidence emerged: Mosa-ko’s identity is Shirahoshi, princess of the Ryugu Kingdom.
The Prince of Elbaf beneath the Treasure Tree Adam — and the Princess of the Ryugu Kingdom above the Sunlight Tree Eve. Adam is Loki; Eve is Shirahoshi. A beautifully perfect pairing.
Was Loki a Former Emperor?
Loki was crucified six years ago — exactly when Shanks rose to become one of the Four Emperors. This coincidence sparked the theory that Loki was once an Emperor himself: that he held the title of Yonko, was defeated by Shanks, and replaced by him.
His World Government Special Bounty of 2.6 billion Berries — almost equal to Luffy’s — is cited as supporting evidence.
However, the theory has a fatal flaw. To carry the title “Emperor,” one must have an island as their territory. Whitebeard, Kaido, Big Mom, Shanks, Teach, Luffy — all held islands under their banner. An Emperor is one who rules an empire; without territory, the title cannot apply.
After Harald’s death, Loki never took the throne — leaving Warland without a king. So Loki had no territory protected under his pirate flag, and the “former Emperor” theory doesn’t hold up.
The Mystery of Loki the Sun God
“I am the Sun God who will end the world!! LOKI!!”
Like Road, Loki called himself “the Sun God.” Road’s explanation: “Everyone born in Elbaf carries the dream of becoming the Sun God and ruling the world.”
The New Giant Warrior Pirates — Hildyin and company — also said: “Everyone born in Elbaf admires Nika.” So Loki, too, likely proclaimed himself the Sun God out of admiration for the Sun God Nika.
Nika appears twice in the “Harley,” an ancient Elbaf scripture, but because no one today can correctly translate the old language, Nika has been passed down in many forms: “God of Liberation,” “God of Destruction,” “God of Laughter,” and others. Each may reflect an aspect of Nika’s true nature — or all could be inaccurate.
Will Loki Join Luffy’s Crew?
Will Loki join Luffy’s crew? The answer is both YES and NO — it all depends on how you define “crew member.”
The classic image is someone who rides the Sunny, holds a role like helmsman or ship’s doctor, and adventures with Luffy. But that’s not the only kind of crew member.
Is Vivi, who stayed behind in Alabasta, no longer crew? What about Yamato, who promised to board once her own adventure ended? Momonosuke, who chose to protect the country as a Kozuki? Kinemon? The Straw Hat Grand Fleet?
What matters isn’t “whether they’re on the Sunny” — it’s whether Luffy decides he doesn’t want this person to die. The moment that feeling stirs, they’re crew.
Between Loki and Luffy, that feeling has already begun to take root.
That said, Loki immediately adventuring with Luffy after the Elbaf arc? That’s definitely not happening — because Loki has things he must do first.
Loki Will Reform Galley-La
The legendary clan of giant shipwrights known as the “Grand Hammer Fleet (Galley-La)” — handed down in Elbaf as myth — turned out to be real. Rocks knew of their existence and told Loki about them, believing “Harald could move them.”
And so Loki, who inherited the will of both Rocks and Harald, carries the mission to revive Galley-La.
But where is Galley-La now? This connects to the giants frozen at Punk Hazard.
From the matching silhouettes, those frozen giants at Punk Hazard are almost certainly Galley-La.
And right now, Vegapunk — Punk Hazard’s former ruler — is in Elbaf. If Vegapunk mentions the frozen giants, Loki will naturally head to Punk Hazard. (Note: every character frozen in One Piece’s story has without exception been revived. Galley-La will be no different.)
Loki has a trump card for thawing them: Ragnil.
“Ragnil” — Iron Thunder — obtained along with the power of the Nidhogg fruit, also possesses the ability to melt ice. Head to Punk Hazard, thaw Galley-La with Ragnil — Loki will inherit Rocks’ dream and become “the captain who leads Galley-La.”
And Galley-La has yet another mission: the repair of Ark Noah. The Sea Kings once said “that clan who can fix Noah” — who else could it be but Galley-La, the master shipwrights of the giants?
Noah is located at Fish-Man Island. And Loki’s fiancée Shirahoshi — Mosa-ko — is there.
Fish-Man Island is currently in a state of emergency. For Loki, heading there with Galley-La means the mission to repair Noah and the personal drive to save Shirahoshi overlap perfectly — there is no reason not to go.
After the Elbaf arc, Loki’s route: head to Punk Hazard → thaw Galley-La with Ragnil → head to Fish-Man Island → repair Ark Noah → reunite with Shirahoshi.
Loki will realize Rocks’ ambitions in his own way. That’s the grand role this character carries — and I believe it’s one of the most compelling arcs still ahead in One Piece.
