Character Origins

The moment you see Frank N. Furter from The Rocky Horror Picture Show next to Ivankov, the conversation is over. Eye makeup, fishnet tights, garter belt, bizarre backup dancers — Oda reproduced the character with total fidelity. But the connection goes deeper than costume: Ivankov’s hormone powers and the Kamabakka Kingdom are built on the same idea as Frank’s castle.

Every One Piece admiral has a real-world model — a Japanese film star from the Showa era. What makes this

Captain Kidd’s treasure legend spawned Treasure Island, which gave us Rayleigh and Zeff. Urogue’s model is Barbarossa — and a monk Oda has wanted to write since before One Piece. Apoo’s subordination to Kaido was built into his historical model from day one. Bege hides Al Capone, The Godfather, and two names hidden in the Red Hair Pirates.
