Red-Haired Pirates
Shanks, Ben Beckman, Lucky Roux, and Yasopp have now been joined by Limejuice, Bonk Punch, Monster, Building Snake, and others who made their official debut in “ONE PIECE FILM RED.”
Let’s take a moment to summarize everything we know about the Red-Haired Pirates.
Shanks
Red-Haired Pirates Captain
Nickname: Red-Haired
Bounty: 4,048,900,000 berries
Age: 39
Weapon: Saber “Griffon”
In Volume 104, Shanks displayed otherworldly power by restraining Green Bull, who launched a surprise attack from “super long range” using “super powerful” Haki.
Shanks still hasn’t shown his full strength. The movie entry bonus “40 Billion Volume” revealed even more new information.
“Perception killer” — controlling presence — not showing the future
By suppressing his presence, he can suppress fighting intent → attacks can’t be read.
Similar to “Zetsu” in HUNTER×HUNTER.
Ben Beckman
Red-Haired Pirates Vice Captain
Age: 50
Bounty: Unknown
Weapon: Rifle
As of Volume 8’s SBS, he was introduced as the person with the highest IQ.
New information from the 40 Billion Volume:
Haki + rifle bullet penetration
Playboy — woman-lover
He shares traits with Rayleigh: being the No. 2 of a major pirate crew, a woman-lover, and long hair.
Yasopp
Red-Haired Pirates Sniper
Nickname: Chaser
Age: 47
Spouse: Banchina
Child: Usopp
Bounty: Unknown
Weapon: Musket
New information from the 40 Billion Volume:
Sniper — 100 shots, 100 hits
Eats crustaceans shell and all / Good at dancing
Is Luffy’s habit of eating shrimp shell and all an imitation of Yasopp?
Good at dancing → good sense of rhythm → befitting of Usopp’s father, who is always first to sing at a party.
Lucky Roux
Red-Haired Pirates Cook
Age: 35
Bounty: Unknown
Weapon: Musket
New information from the 40 Billion Volume:
Cook (bad with women)
Haki self-bowling
Oda’s character design shows extremely muscular leg muscles. Fat but agile. A cook who is bad with women — the polar opposite of Sanji.
By the way, Oda-sensei — do you think bowling is a martial art?
Monster and Bonk Punch
“Monster”
Red-Haired Pirates Music Duo
Age: Unknown
Bounty: Unknown
A full-fledged officer. A monkey with combat power and high intelligence matching humans.
He’s been there since Chapter 1.
New information from the 40 Billion Volume:
Music duo — Monster buys time and defeats small fry, Bonk Punch charges up and delivers a single blow to strong enemies.
“Bonk Punch”
Red-Haired Pirates Music Duo
Age: Unknown
Bounty: Unknown
In Chapter 1, he was an impressive character with a distinctive appearance who picked a fight with Luffy.
New information from the 40 Billion Volume:
One-hit counter punch / Monstrous strength charged attack
Maybe something like King Punch? So he fights with his fists rather than weapons.
Limejuice
Red-Haired Pirates (Fighter?)
Age: Unknown
Bounty: Unknown
Limejuice has also been there since Chapter 1. His signature pointed hat hasn’t changed in 12 years.
New information from the 40 Billion Volume:
Aerial combat (flies like Sanji)
Lightning user
So his fighting style is close to Niji of the Germa?
Hongo
Red-Haired Pirates Ship Doctor
Age: Unknown
Bounty: Unknown
Like Bonk Punch, he was an impressively dumb-looking gap-toothed character in Chapter 1.
His hairstyle and scar are the same as 12 years ago.
New information from the 40 Billion Volume:
Ship doctor — knowledgeable about weapons / Instantly disassembles and destroys weapons
Neat freak
He was very active in Film Red, and the number of self-proclaimed Hongo fans increased rapidly after the movie release.
Building Snake
Red-Haired Pirates Navigator
Age: Unknown
Bounty: Unknown
In Volume 1, we couldn’t recognize him, but he apparently has some acquaintance with Luffy.
New information from the 40 Billion Volume:
Navigator technique: Stomping kick / Acrobat “Juggling dual-wield” / Solid guard
Reminds me of Sanji’s fighting style during the Wanze battle. Maybe Oda-sensei’s favorite Sanji moment?
“Howling” Gab
Red-Haired Pirates (Fighter?)
Age: Unknown
Bounty: Unknown
“Howling” is his nickname, not his actual name.
According to the 40 Billion Volume:
“Cutting howl” / “Paralysis”
Fears insects / Fears ghosts
He can let out a “cutting howl” from his mouth, and despite his monster-like appearance, he’s a scaredy-cat — a very Oda-sensei type of character design.
Rockstar
Red-Haired Pirates (Fighter?)
Age: Unknown
Bounty: 94,000,000 berries
Despite being a new recruit, he’s capable enough to be entrusted with a solo mission as messenger to the enemy Emperor “Whitebeard.”
New information from the 40 Billion Volume:
Stickler for rules / Strong sense of justice
Straight-down sword slash “Kachiwari-Ken”
Drill sword for digging holes
Reminds me of Captain T-Bone. The Red-Haired Pirates seem to have a lot of Enies Lobby arc elements.
Uta
Former Red-Haired Pirates
Age: 21 (at time of death?)
Bounty: None
Devil Fruit: Uta Uta no Mi (Paramecia)
Shanks’ adopted daughter who became a world-famous singer. She was a core member of the Red-Haired Pirates until her past with the Uta Uta no Mi was revealed.
The Latest Red-Haired Pirates
After driving away Green Bull, Shanks was drinking with members of the Giant Warrior Pirates in “Elbaph,” close to Wano.
Dorry and Brogy turned out to be sworn brothers with Shanks. That means we can consider them under the Red-Haired Pirates’ umbrella.
He’s so much bigger than we could have imagined from Chapter 1.
We’re looking forward to seeing more of the Red-Haired Pirates’ full picture as it’s gradually revealed.
And on that note, let’s wrap things up for today.
