【Main Story】
Chapter 1196 covers the following:
A hellish memory Sanji wishes he could forget. The two years of training at the Kamabakka Kingdom begin to resurface along with Ivankov’s face — Sanji forces the memory back down through sheer willpower.
But Kirin G’s ability materializes it as the thing Sanji fears most.
With Ivankov now standing right in front of him, Sanji is forced to confront the weakness that was pointed out to him over and over during those two years of training.
“Those who cannot love themselves cannot love others.”
Take care of yourself. Shore up your defenses.
Ivankov’s advice was not what Sanji expected.
Without fully understanding what those words mean, Sanji resolves to face the challenge and grow stronger.
The chapter ends with a line that rings a bell: “Know your place!”
Next issue: on break.
【Editor’s Take】
The Kirin/Giraffe connection paid homage to the classic Zoro vs. Kaku dialogue — Kirin G (キリンガム) is a giraffe-type enemy, just like Kaku, who delivered that same line back then.
Having today’s Sanji deliver a line that once belonged to Zoro — Oda really does know how to give fans exactly what they want.
Will Sanji finally crackle with Conqueror’s Haki somewhere near the final panel of the next chapter?
