The color cover is a self-homage to the Vol. 12 comic cover — a celebratory illustration marking the start of Netflix’s live-action One Piece Season 2 streaming the following day (March 10). The back cover features the live-action cast recreating the same pose as the Vol. 12 cover. Note: the main story of Chapter 1176 itself contains no Vol. 12 homage elements.

Franky Powers Up!

The Franky power-up I’ve been waiting for ever since Vegapunk appeared — it finally happened! I assumed it would come after the battle settled down, with Vegapunk doing a full overhaul including Franky’s back. But who knew that just changing the fuel would make him this powerful? I’ve been waiting so long for this; it’s genuinely satisfying to see.

Power Beyond Cola

Franky has run on something other than cola before — during the Enies Lobby arc. When he used vegetable juice as fuel, his hair turned into a tomato shape and he threw pathetically weak punches, shouting “Fresh and Healthy!! Veggie Puuunch!!”

There’s an interesting backstory to that vegetable weakness. Based on Vivre Card info and Oda’s SBS responses, it’s essentially confirmed that Franky’s father is Queen of the Beast Pirates. ↓

Queen’s name is “Sai-en” (サイエン). Franky’s real name is Katy Frame. So Queen’s full name would be Katy Saien — which is a pun on 家庭菜園 (katei saien), meaning “home vegetable garden.” Which means: Franky weakening on vegetable juice = his cells rejecting his own father.

So this Super Vega-Cola power-up is itself a self-homage to the Enies Lobby arc. The “shoosh-shoosh” sound coming from his punch stance is very reminiscent of Luffy’s Gear 2. That said, will his special moves just be upgraded versions of “Franky Iron Boxing”? And will he ever learn to use Haki…?

Super Strong Right (Dexter)

“Dexter” comes from the Latin word for “right.” It’s used in heraldry (European coat of arms terminology) as a technical term for the right side from the shield-bearer’s perspective — which is actually the left side when viewed by others. It’s also used as a male name in English-speaking countries.

  • Dexter’s Laboratory: A Cartoon Network show about a genius boy named Dexter who causes chaos in his secret lab

The name seems to play on both ideas: becoming powerful through the support of Vegapunk — the world’s greatest genius — and the image of Dexter, the boy genius. Speaking of Cartoon Network shows connected to Dexter’s Lab, the most famous is Powerpuff Girls.

The Century-Long Duel Between Dorry and Broggy Reaches Its End

Source: ONE PIECE Vol. 111, Eiichiro Oda

Dorry and Broggy’s duel was meant to be decided only by death — which is why the two had interrupted it to return to Elbaf for their weapons. But this time, both fell from each other’s strikes. Doesn’t that mean the century-long duel has finally been settled?

If this truly marks the end of the duel, then going forward, Dorry and Broggy can dedicate everything to joining Luffy in taking down the World Government. They were possessed, manipulated, and pushed around — they can’t let it end like that.

That’s all for today. See you next week.
