God’s Natural Enemies — The Demon Category
In One Piece, the “D clan” is described as the natural enemy of God. The true identity of the “D” remains a mystery — but what names are traditionally considered enemies of God?
Researching this turned up some fascinating results.
Satan
Known as the “King of Demons,” the word Satan originates from the ancient Hebrew word sātān, meaning “adversary,” “one who obstructs,” “one who slanders,” or “one who accuses.”
Satan became synonymous with “enemy of God” because of his frequent role in the Bible as one who opposes and interferes with God’s work.

Sanji’s technique “Ifrit Jambe” takes its name directly from this demon. Note: Jambe is French for “leg,” not “jump” — a common misconception.
Demonio
Demonio is a Spanish/Italian word for “demon,” encompassing ogres, evil spirits, and devils. Robin, long called the “Demon Child,” uses the technique “Demonio Fleur” — suggesting she has grown from being a “demon’s child” into a demon herself.
Garp
Garp is also a well-known demonic name — specifically one of the 72 demons of Solomon, described as a “spirit that causes men to forget their duties to God.” Fitting for a man who made Luffy forget his duty to stay out of trouble.
Dagon
Dagon is a Philistine god who appears in the Old Testament as an adversary to the God of Israel. A fish-god worshipped in the ancient Middle East — his aquatic nature fits perfectly with One Piece’s fishman-related lore.
D as Demiurge?
In Gnostic philosophy, the Demiurge is a creator god who is imperfect or malevolent — a false god who rules the material world but is opposed by a higher divine truth.
If the World Government is the “God” of the One Piece world, then the D clan as the “natural enemy of God” may represent those who carry the true will of the ancient kingdom — opposing the false order imposed by the Celestial Dragons.
