Otama Gets Stronger in a Short Time
Yamato’s cover story Vol.21: “I’m not the same person I was that day!” The source composition this week is a scene from the Egghead arc (Ch.1091 / vol.108). The parallel: Otama, in just a few weeks, has grown approximately 100 times stronger than she was. Short timeframe, dramatic growth — same energy as the Egghead callbacks Oda has been running all arc.
The Library Master Who Lives for Hundreds of Years
Profile of the owl at the Elbaf library:
- Lives for hundreds of years
- Has eaten the Iku Iku no Mi (Grow-Grow Fruit)
- Is the master and custodian of the library
- Uses its ability to shrink all books down to its own reading size
- Wears glasses
Put this together: the owl collects books in order to read them. It’s not a guardian or a symbol — it’s a reader. Which means this owl has been absorbing knowledge for hundreds of years and may know more about the world’s secrets than any living creature in Elbaf.
And Chopper — the one Straw Hat who can speak to animals — could have a direct conversation with this entity. The implications for what Chopper might learn here, in the arc where he’s supposed to finally earn his “5th crew member” title, are significant.
Ripley’s Younger Husband
Giants have roughly three times the lifespan of humans, which means you can divide a giant’s actual age by three to get the human-equivalent age for their appearance. Working through the numbers:
- Gerz: currently 75 years old → 75 ÷ 3 = 25. She looks around 25.
- Hiluluk: 81 years old → 27. He looks around 27.
- Ripley: appears slightly older than Gerz → looks around 28, which puts her actual age around 84.
84 years old means that Rayleigh (78) and Garp (78) would both technically be younger than Ripley — making either of them plausible “younger husband” candidates. This is almost certainly intentional misdirection from Oda. The age math is worth keeping in mind.
Colon’s Father Lives in Elbaf
The bar owner Mato mentioned: “And a little of Dad’s favorite too!” This offhand line confirms that Ripley’s husband — Colon’s father — is currently in Elbaf and is a regular at the bar. He’s present, he’s local, and people know his preferences.
Cross-referencing: Shanks mentioned he had “an old friend” in Elbaf. Given that Colon’s father is a bar regular at the location Shanks would presumably visit, the “old friend” is almost certainly Colon’s father. The silhouette matches a figure we’ve seen before (the self-homage chain from Egghead back through Sabaody is still running, which means legendary-pirate-tier encounters are still possible).
Personally, I’d like Colon’s father to be connected to the Rocks Pirates — maybe a former right-hand man, someone who also drank with Crocus on his ship at Twin Capes. It’s time for the Rocks backstory to get some real depth, and Elbaf feels like the right place for that to happen.
