Jinbei the Knight of the Sea
Yamato’s cover story Vol.20: “Raid on Holdem! Hand over everything!” Just as predicted, this week’s cover is the Jinbei chapter — the last of the current Straw Hat crew in the recruitment sequence. The source scene:
Jinbei defeats Opera and rescues Luffy from Big Mom’s dungeon — the moment he commits fully and publicly to rebellion against one of the Four Emperors. Then, mid-battle chaos, he finds the right moment to formally return his sake cup to Big Mom, severing their alliance cleanly. He came out of it unencumbered, free, and ready to join Luffy’s crew properly.
With Jinbei’s chapter done, the full current Straw Hat lineup has now been covered. But Vivi appeared at Vol.16 — and she didn’t stay on the ship. Does that mean the cover story includes crew members who left? If so: Kinemon? Momonosuke? The sequence might not be finished after all.
Luffy Pulled by the Cover Story’s Jinbei Homage
The word jingi (仁義) — roughly: chivalric code, the proper protocol of loyalty and honor — keeps surfacing in the One Piece story. It’s especially associated with Jinbei. When Jinbei formally joined the crew in Wano, the ceremony was called jingi o kiru (仁義を切る) — literally “cutting jingi,” a formal yakuza-derived greeting ritual for establishing a bond.
So when Luffy suddenly invokes “jingi” out of nowhere in Chapter 1133, the most likely explanation is structural: the cover story was running a Jinbei homage, and Oda wanted the main story to echo that same theme. Cover story and main story cross-pollinating — another layer of Oda’s deliberate internal architecture.
Robin’s Wish Comes True
The arc of Robin’s search for the Void Century has been building for a long time:
- In Wano: her memories and ability were weaponized against her by enemies. Devastating.
- In Egghead: Vegapunk’s revelation — shocking information about the Void Century that reframed everything Robin thought she knew.
- In Elbaf: Robin’s wish — to discover the True History, to know what happened in those 900 blank years — may finally come true.
